AfriAfya Remembers Chris Wood

Dr Chris H. Wood 1924-2009
A warm aura and a contagious smile define the person that was Dr. Christopher Wood. Known as Chris to friends and family, he was the man behind the inception of AfriAfya in 2001. A hilarious nature and easy attitude towards work saw him strive through the years, his age not withstanding, to see the dissemination of health and development information to the rural and marginalized communities through the use of ICTs.
“People thought I was mad when I said I wanted to help establish resource centres equipped with computers and other ICTs in the rural areas to help alleviate poor health among rural and marginalized communities…”, he once said in an interview in 2007.
It has been one year since he left us and we at AfriAfya are working tirelessly to see his dream realized in Kenya and beyond. The tears we shed over his demise are not only a symbol of the pain felt by all but also the emptiness of the gap left in our midst.
We will carry on his dream for as long as God allows us. Our strength will be the zeal he always had and will forever be the life that flows in AfriAfya.
