Improving School and Community Health.

In 2001, a school near the shores of Lake Victoria caused a wave of excitement in the surrounding community when an array of ICTs – a computer, printer and a Worldspace radio landed there.

Computers, at the time, were a rare sight in rural settings and could only be found in commercial offices in major towns and occasionally in government offices. The majority of pupils, teachers and the community here had never seen or touched a computer before. The school is Diemo Primary School located approximately 33km from Kisumu city and is the home of the first community resource center that AfriAfya set up jointly with one of its partner agencies, Plan Kenya.
