Kisapuk CLC Launch
Pomp, colour and a festive mood were the language of the day as the Maasai women, men and children
danced, celebrating the arrival of a new asset right in their midst. The Kisapuk Community Learning Centre.
The residents of Nkiito, where the centre is located had an early day as they prepared for the arrival
of the guests. Paths were lined beautifully with freshly white-washed stones adding a touch of modernity
to the very remote environment.
A very important guest was awaited- the Country Program Coordinator from World Vision Australia- Mr.
Stuart Thompson. The event was also to be graced by the AfriAfya Director- Dr. Sara K. Kinagwi. In as
far as the guest list was concerned let’s just say a whole lot of important persons were to join in the
celebration of the CLC launch.
Government officials including the area Chief, D.O and a representative from the Ministry of Agriculture,
Namanga Division were also present. Many of them gave inspirational speeches as they appreciated the noble
work being undertaken by World Vision and AfriAfya in bringing development to the marginalized people.
Oh, the children- weren’t their performances adorable! They made impressive performances communicating
various messages most of them promoting education of the boy and girl child for a better tomorrow.
Despite the songs being in Maasai, the dramatization spelt out the messages clearly for all to understand.
The smiles playing on the lips of the guests were a clear indication that they wished the performances
could go on and on. The women were not left out in a thrilling jig traditionally performed to welcome
visitors. This they performed with the energy of teenagers and the skill of aged women; the dance was
crowned by the presentation of various gifts to the guests.
The procession to the CLC stole the show- saying it was awesome would be an understatement.
The women sang their hearts out as the overwhelming multitude made its way for the official
opening of the centre.
It was almost a stampede as everyone struggled to set foot in the Kisapuk jewel- and there it
was- the CLC was well furnished and equipped with modern ICT equipment for the development of
the once forgotten people of Kajiado. July 17th 2009, what a wonderful day it was!
