Paul Wycliffe: Nyakongo community resource center

Orengo Paul Wycliffe is a 13 years old class 8 pupil in Nyakongo Primary School, Madiany Division in Kisumu. Nyakongo Resource Centre is situated in their school and Wycliffe took advantage of the proximity of the centre to study computer packages. He attended the courses for two months last year.

Wycliffe revealed that he can now do many things with the computer including writing letters, poems and create graphs using Windows –excel computer package. During an interview Wycliffe pointed out that:

“I am now a better person than I was before. I did not know much but now I am much better. I am now not afraid of the computer anywhere. The TV in the centre has enabled me to see the outside world. We also learn about many things in Geography, science and history in the centre.

When I grow up and get work I can start a business in computer for others to learn. The people need to learn computers so that they can send e-mails; it is easier than to go to Bondo that takes a long time. I do not know e-mail yet but I know it is a easier way to communicate. All children in our school want to learn computer but there is only one that we share with other schools like Akuom Primary and the adults. I do not know e-mail yet but I know it is easier way to communicate. Knowledge of the computer will reduce the workload of our community workload”.
